Zee Tamil proudly presents the first-ever Short Film Competition - ZEE REEL. This is an opportunity to showcase the work of film aspirants from Singapore & Malaysia on a global television platform.
Top 8 shortlisted short films will be showcased on Zee Tamil APAC channel. This talent hunt aims to provide an International platform for filmmakers to showcase their talent and be recognised.
Our reputable panel of jury will conduct an online mentorship session for these filmmakers prior to competition. They will select the top eight entries in consensus.

A. L. Vijay, is an Indian film director who works in the Tamil film industry. He debuted as director with “Kireedam” and went on to make the critically acclaimed “Madrasapattinam”. He later directed big budget films such as “Deiva Thirumagal” and “Thaandavam”, both of which starred Vikram and received many accolades. He has worked extensively with top Kollywood heroes and has directed scripts that have made an everlasting impression in the minds of the audience. His movie “Deiva Thirumagal” won Best Picture Award in the Grand Prix and was nominated for FilmFare Awards.
Tamil Dasan is the programming head of Zee Tamil & Deputy Business head of Zee Thirai. With Tamil Dasan at the helm, Zee Tamil has reached an all-time high of 700+ grp from 70 grps. History was rewritten when Zee Tamil fiction gained leadership in prime-time fiction beating all channels in Tamil Nadu. He has successfully created extravagant events like “Zee Tamil Kudumbam Viruthugal”. He also launched the first “Zee Cine Awards” in Tamil.
Vimala Perumal, PhD, PTech is a Malaysian director who has worked on several independent short films and feature films, some of which were screened at International Film Festivals. Her film, “Vedigundu Pasangge”, won the Best Film Award in the Norway Tamil Film Festival. The movie also bagged 41 awards, inclusive of 9 International awards and 32 National level awards, with more than 50 nominations. It has also been nominated in six major categories and won the Special Jury Award in the nation’s most prestigious award event, the 30th Malaysian Film Festival 2019.
As a filmmaker, Rajagopal has won the Singapore International Film Festival’s Special Jury Prize for 3 consecutive years. “I Can’t Sleep Tonight” (1995), “The Glare” (1996) and “Absence” (1997) have been featured at International festivals around the world. His short film “Timeless” (2010) won Best Cinematography and Best Editing at the Singapore Short Film Awards 2011. His short film was also part of the SG50 MDA commissioned omnibus film “7 Letters” (2015) which had its Asian premier at the Busan Film Festival. His first feature film, “Yellow Bird” premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
Yahssir M is a multiple award winning filmmaker and the founder/CEO of Millenia Motion Pictures Pte Ltd. He has won four awards for his entry, “Checkmate” in the Panasonic Digital Fiesta 2010. He also went on to win the first prize in the 2010 OKTO’s Project PDA which enabled him to do a stint in Hollywood. His movie “Ninaivugal” was awarded the finalist winner at the New York Festival World’s Best TV & Films and the winner of the National Award at the Asian Academy Award.

There is no restriction on the number of members in a team.
Any genre can be submitted. Please mention the genre you wish to submit in the registration form. The short film must strictly adhere to the terms and conditions mentioned. No form of vulgar content will be accepted by the channel.
Yes, there can be more than one entry from a participant.
Top 8 shortlisted entries will be telecasted on Zee Tamil and top 3 winners will be selected to intern (Check disclaimer) with the International Jury.
No fee is required to participate in the competition.
Entering the contest is a one-time process, with both registration and submission combined in the same form. Once you register, you will be required to submit your entry as the next step. Only after both are complete will the submission be considered valid.
